Y'all forgot what Attack on Titan was about
I've just finished Attack on Titan, and in lieu of a more cohesive analysis (which I think I'll be better able to do upon actually reading the manga) I'll say that 99% of people go wrong in their treatment of the show when they think it's about fascism or something primarily to do with politics/politicking. The more base theme of the show felt to me to be forgetfulness as a potential force for good, or rather how the inability to forget our pasts can sometimes doom us more to repeat cycles of violence than forgetting it can. It's a really smart critique of the "those who don't learn from their history are doomed to repeat it" truism that I've never seen done before, and so I'll probably be thinking of the show (especially the ending) for a long long time now.
(Also Gabi is one of the best characters in anime and I'll fight all of you on this.)
